Government ministers from across the Asia Pacific region have agreed to improve sustainability in the mining sector.
The ministers and global resource companies have been meeting at an Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation or APEC conference in Perth.
They have agreed to work towards freeing up trade and investment and cooperate on economic and technical issues.
Mitch Hooke from the Minerals Council of Australia says the nations are geographically diverse, but have the same goal.
He says the future of the industry is dependent on the global pursuit of sustainable development.
