Samoa police re-investigate a journalist assault complaint

The police in Samoa have re-investigated an assault complaint lodged by a woman journalist against a business woman believed to have close links with a senior police officer.

The move comes after the attorney general's office questioned the police over why the first investigation into the alleged assault was not completed, after a year after the complaint was laid.

The journalist, Cherrel Jackson, was told by police investigators last October that her complaint file was lost and later told that the file has been forwarded to the police commissioner.

But the assistant police commissioner and spokesman, Papali'i Li'o, has strongly denied suggestions that the lack of action is due to the accused's close links with a senior officer.
