Tonga poised to ratify CEDAW

The Tonga minister for education Dr Tevita Palefau, says the government is committed to signing up to the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women or CEDAW.

Dr Palefau said once they have received a submission from the ministry of education's women and development centre, cabinet will consider ratifying the convention.

Tonga is one of three Pacific Island countries, including Nauru and Palau, which has not yet ratified CEDAW.
