Hawaiian Airlines posts 40 million dollar loss

Hawaiian Airlines' has reported a 9.6 million US dollars loss for the fourth quarter and a 40.5 million loss for the year, citing both high fuel prices and mounting competition.

Hawaiian's president and chief executive, Mark Dunkerley, says 2006 was challenging as other airlines picked up capacity in the trans-Pacific market and a new airline entered the Hawaii interisland market.

Revenue at the company increased 4 percent in the fourth quarter to 219.6 million US dollars and 7 percent for the year to 888 million dollars.
