Australian companies discussing investment in Fiji

Five Australian companies reportedly want to invest about 480-million US dollars in Fiji over the next five years.

The five include two resort projects, a film and television production company, a manufacturer of sheepskin products, and a plant to make paper products.

Fiji's trade commissioner in Australia, Jaindra Kumar, says talks with the investors have been under way for months.

Representatives of four of the five companies met with the interim minister of commerce, Taito Waradi, in Suva yesterday.

Mr Waradi says the investors are aware of the situation in Fiji but what is happening at the political level is for the politicians.

The investor who wants to set up a sheepskin products plant in Fiji, Edward Pieszko, says they have been getting negative reports from the media in Australia but when they come to Fiji it is completely different.

Mr Pieszko says they are 100% confident of where Fiji is going.
