American Samoa Tax Office seeking replacement tax consultant

10:45 am on 7 March 2007

A former agent with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service hired recently as a consultant to the American Samoa Tax Office, spent only two days on-island before quitting and returning to America.

Tax Office Manager, Melvin Joseph, says the retired IRS agent arrived in the territory around Feb. 22nd, reported for work the following morning (a Friday) and showed up again on Saturday.

However, he left the next day , sending an e-mail to Mr Joseph saying he was returning home.

Melvin Joseph, says he presumes the new recruit was not happy with the heat and humidity in the territory or the standard of accomodation provided, which he says was "not luxurious".

The Tax Office is now working on recruiting another consultant.
