The Fiji Military Forces is conducting its own inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of 19-year old Sakiusa Rabaka.

The Nadi youth died from injuries he allegedly sustained while being detained by soldiers and a policeman over drug-related offences.

Fiji Live quotes Military spokesman Major Neumi Leweni saying their investigations are underway.

Major Leweni disputed media reports that police officers were stopped by soldiers from questioning their colleagues.

Major Leweni said it was a sensitive matter that involved the police and the military.

He also cautioned the media to be mindful of reports carried by a weblog that he claims is trying to discredit the military.

Police officers from the Namaka Police Station were reportedly stopped at the military barracks in Nadi when they went to question some soldiers.

Rabaka's family alleges he died from injuries he received after he was taken away by six soldiers and a policeman in January.

Rabaka underwent surgery for head injuries but died about a week ago.
