Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister says a new biodiesel plant is a reflection of his government's commitment to developing clean energy.

Sir Michael Somare officiated at the ground breaking of the new plant at Alotau in Milne Bay last week.

He said the plant is an example of his government's pro-active approach to attracting investors to develop industry in PNG, and their efforts to expand the palm oil industry.

Crude palm oil will be processed in Alotau to provide a clean form of diesel which will be sold locally as well as exported.
