At least four employees of American Samoa's Department of Public Safety have been removed or are about about to lose their jobs because back ground checks revealed they have criminal records.
Three are police officers and one is a civilian.
According to Deputy Commissioner Mike Fuiava one has already been terminated, another has resigned and two others have been given notice.
Their records are for crimes committed off island.
Among the four is a prison guard who had been subpoenaed for a federal grand jury in the case of former prison warden Amituanai Mika Kelemete.
