Fiji interim PM announces salary cuts for MPs, judges and constitutional office holders

Fiji's interim ministers, judges, magistrates and holders of constitutional offices are to all take a five percent salary cut.

The Fiji-live website reports that interim prime minister and army commander Commodore Frank Bainimarama made the announcement at a media conference yesterday.

Commodore Bainimara said misinformation was being spread that there was no pay cut for ministers or permanent secretaries.in the interim government

He said that ministers in the interim cabinet have taken an overall reduction in salary and allowances of 35 per cent,

Commodore Bainimarama also made the point that ministers workload had increased almost twofold given that their numbers had been reduced from 36 to 16.
