An Inland Revenue Audit in Solomon Islands has revealed that taxpayers still owe the government more than 1 million US dollars for the year 2006.

The acting Commissioner of the Inland Revenue Division of the Ministry of Finance Ronnie Piva says the audit for last year assessed an additional income of 1.61 million US.

Mr Piva told the Solomon Islands Broadcasting that the audits covered a broad spectrum of taxpayers - including financial institutions, shipping agents, high wealth individuals, retailers, wholesalers and a local exporter.

He said these are some incomes that had not been declared, or that returns had not been submitted or were under declared.
