Flags fly at half mast in American Samoa

10:22 am on 22 March 2007

American Samoa's Governor Togiola Tulafono ordered all flags in the territory to be flown at half mast yesterday, to honor the death of Attorney General Sialega Malaetasi Mauga Togafau.

Sialega, 60, passed away on March the 9th at Straub Hospital in Honolulu, where he was seeking cancer treatment following surgery in November.

The flags will remain at half mast until his burial, this Friday.

Yesterday, both the Senate and the House passed their respective condolences and sympathies of the Fono and the people of American Samoa to Sialega's widow and family.

Togiola says Sialega's service to his family, village, church, district and especially this Territory are deserving of his honor.
