American Samoa Senator calls for psychologial evaluations for reservists

7:37 am on 22 March 2007

American Samoa Senator, Alo Stevenson is calling for psychological evaluations and counseling for local reservists who had been deployed to Iraq.

The Ituau senator says he has reason to believe that some of the soldiers are suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome but are not coming forward to seek help.

Senator Alo says that not all of the soldiers were given physiological evaluations after deployment and he is worried that their families will suffer because of this.

He suggests that Congressman Faleomavaega should ensure that local soldiers get the testing and counseling services they need.

About 300 American Samoa reservists were deployed to Iraq in 2004 and 2005.
