Bougainville assures insurance companies province is safe for investors

Efforts are to be made to convince insurance companies that the autonomous Papua New Guinea province of Bougainville is a now a safe bet for investment.

The ABG says economic development is being held back partly because potential investors are struggling to get backing from insurance companies.

The acting vice president of the ABG, Taehu Pais, says this is a legacy of the civil war but they want to advertise and encourage insurers to come to the province to observe how peaceful it now is.

"People away from this region still think that there is still war in the region. But technically we just need people to come and see what is happening on the island to be able to really be fully aware of what they should believe in."
