Solomon Islands union remains concerned over matters at college

1:40 pm on 26 March 2007

The president of a Solomon Islands union says he remains concerned about what he alleges are abuses of process and authority at the College of Higher Education.

Duddley Hoala who heads the academic staff union, Chenla, says he'll be presenting a petition listing staff concerns, including a call for the removal of the director, to the trade dispute panel.

This matter was referred to the panel by the college council.

Mr Hoala says the director, Gabriel Taloikwai, did nothing about their concerns over two expatriate technical advisers, one of whom they allege was abusive and threatening to staff.

Mr Hoala says the college council has taken action over the technical advisers.

"According to the council ruling, they will be removed so we stand by that. The issue now is just simply the removal of the director and the issue has been thrown to the trade dispute panel. It's all there for us to pursue further and that's the legal place where all these issues should be addressed."
