More rain expected in flood-hit Fiji

More heavy rain and flooding are expected in Fiji over the next two days.

The area in and around the main tourist town, Nadi, has been worst hit and the low-lying areas are still under water.

Three families are sheltering at an evacuation centre in Lautoka after their homes were flooded.

The Fiji met service's duty forecaster, Alipate Waqaicelua, says more rain is expected for the next couple of days.

"We are looking at more rain, heavy at times, and there is still a likelihood of flash flooding continuing over most parts of the group, particularly over the flood prone or low lying areas of our country."

Alipate Waqaicelua says he expects the rain to ease from Wednesday onwards.
