Abuse complaint lodged against Fiji chiefs' chairman

A delegation from the town of Tavua in Fiji has lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Unit against Great Council of Chiefs chairman Ratu Ovini Bokini.

Fijilive.com reports that the complainants belonging to the Tui Tavua's chiefly household and kingmaker clan want Ratu Ovini investigated for alleged abuse of his traditional authority.

The delegation met the deputy military commander Captain Esala Teleni yesterday and presented documents to Captain Teleni, which stated their grievances against the chief.

Copies of the correspondence were also sent to the President Ratu Josefa Iloilo.

The delegation also wants Ratu Ovini to explain his association with a group of Asian businessman who he has been meeting recently.

Ratu Ovini could not be reached for comments.
