A regional director at the UN Family Planning Agency wants to the world community to pay more attention to the Pacific region.

The UNFPA's Asia-pacific Division Director, Sultan Aziz, says the international investment in the well being of the region has fallen largely on the shoulders of Australia and New Zealand.

He thinks that should begin to change.

"The rest of the donor community really need to take a second look at what is happening in the Pacific. I think events, both political and social upheaval is a forerunner of I think much deeper issues that need to be addressed and they need to be addressed in a collective and coherent manner."
