The deposed Fiji prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, says he is confident that he can return to Suva after Easter when his court case against the military is heard.
Speaking from his internal exile on Vanuabalavu, Mr Qarase told the fijilive website that he will be the main witness.
A preliminary hearing is due to be held this week.
The military, which ousted his government in December, has maintained that it will not allow Mr Qarase to set foot on the main island, Viti Levu.
Mr Qarase and other members of his deposed cabinet are challenging the legality of the military overthrow.
