Arrest warrants have been issued for seven people in connection with the theft of foodstuffs from American Samoa's LBJ Hospital.

Our correspondent says it's alleged that over the past 18 months they stole various food items and supplies from the hospital cafeteria.

Some of the items were allegedly exchanged for beer, cigarettes, soft drinks, chips and money.

The stolen items included cases of steaks, hams, ground beef, chicken, butter and milk.
