The chief secretary of Papua New Guinea, Joshua Kalinoe, is today ending his five-year term as the top official in the PNG bureaucracy.

In a parting message, Mr Kalinoe advises PNG to continue with good relations with Australia, especially in view of the traditional and geographical closeness.

With Australia set to double its aid spending by 2010, PNG is expected to benefit if it meets certain conditions.

He told the newspaper, The National, that he'll be put in charge of the newly established entity, Petromin, which will oversee the all state interests in petroleum and mining projects.
