Fiji military withdraws from checkpoints

6:06 am on 2 April 2007

The military in Fiji has pulled out of the checkpoints set up following the takeover last December.

Despite the weekend move, the emergency regulations are still inforce.

The Military spokesman Major Neumi Leweni told the Fiji Times that even though they had pulled out, the army would still monitor security in the country.

He said the police now had the responsibility of manning the checkpoints.
