Fiji chiefs invite interim PM to next week's meeting

The Fiji Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama will be invited to the Great Council of Chiefs meeting next week.

The GCC chairman Ratu Ovini Bokini has confirmed to fijivillage.com that it is important for the GCC to hear the views of Commodore Bainimarama as he is the head of the current interim government.

Ratu Ovini says apart from Commodore Bainimarama, the Fijian Affairs Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau is the only other member of the interim regime that will be part of the GCC meeting.

The high chiefs are expected to endorse President Ratu Josefa Iloilo's nominee for Vice President when they meet in Lami on the 11th and 12th of this month.

Commodore Bainiamrama purported to be the President for a month as part of his coup.

The GCC refused to recognise his claim and in early January, Commodore Bainimarama quit his post as interim president to become the interim prime minister.
