The mother of the 19-year-old youth whose death sparked an inquiry in Fiji says she hopes someone will be charged soon for the death of her son.

Last weekend, Fiji police interviewed six soldiers in connection with the death in February of Sakiusa Rabaka.

He died from injuries he allegedly suffered at the hands of the six soldiers and a police officer after he was detained in January.

The files of the interviews will now be sent to the director of public prosecutions to determine whether charges should be laid.

The mother, Alanieta Rabaka, says something must now be done to address what happened.

"I prefer that everything has been forwarded to the DPP but I am hoping that they will be brought to justice very soon."

Alanieta Rabaka says she only hears about the progress of the investigation via the media.
