France's ruling UMP Party has nominated a politician of French Polynesia's Tahoeraa Huiraatira Party as its official candidate in the territory for the French national assembly election in June.
Bruno Sandras was given the endorsement after a meeting in Paris which was also attended by the Tahoeraa leader, Gaston Flosse, and the incumbent, Beatrice Vernaudon .
The nomination has taken her by surprise, saying she only found out through the media and on return from the Paris UMP meeting.
She says the selection process has been insulting as she had subscribed to the UMP leader Nicolas Sarkozy's push to end clan rule and paternalism in the French overseas territories.
Mrs Vernaudon says she will stand in the June election.
French Polynesia has two seats in the French assembly.
