12:58 pm on 6 April 2007

The Department of Public Safety in American Samoa is investigating how a police radio got into the hands of a suspected drug dealer.

The radio was among audio equipment discovered in a police search of the home of drugs defendant, along with 85,000 US dollars worth of crystal methamphetamine, or ice.

The Deputy Commissioner of Public Safety, Mike Fuiava, says an investigation is being launched into how the suspect obtained the police radio.

Mr Fuiava says he's taking the matter very seriously as it affects the safety of officers.

The defendant is being charged with two counts of possession of controlled substances and one count of possession with intent to distribute.
