American Samoa administration considering proposed tax code changes

10:10 am on 10 April 2007

There are discussions in American Samoa on revising the tax code.

The American Samoa Chamber of Commerce has sought to change the corporate tax structure and raised the issue with Governor Togiola Tulafono.

The chamber's president, David Robinson, says concerns have been raised about non-U.S. companies doing business in American Samoa.

Mr Robinson says a 30 percent tax withholding on profits of local non-U.S. company defeats the goal of trying to attract new business and investment to the territory.

He says tax reforms will assist when talking to new companies looking at coming to American Samoa.
