A Samoan man, who allegedly used a fake American Samoan birth certificate to obtain a U.S. passport, has been charged with passport fraud at the federal court in Honolulu.
Amosa Saena Amosa Jr. faces one count of making a false statement in a passport application.
Amosa allegedly stated on his passport application that he was born in American Samoa and provided a fraudulent birth certificate issued by American Samoa's Office of Vital Statistics in his name
Prosecutors have filed a motion to detain the defendant arguing that Amosa is a serious flight risk.
He will remain in custody until his detention hearing whic is set down for Wednesday.
