A Samoan government proposed sewage plant to be constructed in a village within Apia town area is at the center of criticism from a businessman whose family hotel is situated in the area.
The businessman, Tuala Oli Ah Him, says tourists staying at motels and hotels in Sogi would prefer to find accommodation in other places because of the smell from the treatment plant which is to be constructed next year.
Tuala's concerns were raised after a community awareness and consultation workshop about the project.
The Samoa Observer newspaper reports that Tuala has called on the government to reconsider its project because of health concerns.
The Sanitation and Drainage project is an initiative funded by the Asian Development Bank and aimed at improving the waste water management in the Apia urban area.
