American Samoa legislators address concerns about airport funeral arrangements

Public concern about the lack of a facility for short funeral services at Pago Pago's International Airport has been addressed in a House resolution

The resolution follows complaints that the ceremonies take place in a small field in the warehouse and hanger area because there is no terminal or reception area available.

The resolution reminds the governor that the Samoan culture holds the deceased in the highest regard and it is in bad taste that transported bodies are received in such a casual manner.

The Port Administration director, Tuitele Tony Tuitele says he agrees with the concerns raised in the resolution, but local funds will be needed to construct a reception area for the purpose because there are no federal funds available.
