Two Pacific women named in New Zealand athletics team to Japan

The Tongan New Zealand-born shotputter Valerie Vili heads the eleven strong Kiwi team for the world athletic champs in Japan in August.

Vili, who's ranked number two in the world in her event has been selected along with Beatrice Faumuina in the discus and Commonwealth Games 1500m gold medallist Nick Willis.

Vili has competed at the last two world champs finishing fifth in Paris in 2003 and third in Helsinki in 2005.

It will be ten years since New Zealand born Samoan, Faumuina won the world title in the discus in Athens and she's competed in three subsequent world championships, finishing fifth in Seville in 1999, 13th in Paris in 2003 and fourth in Helsinki two year's ago.

A further eight athletes will be added to the team.
