Trade between Fiji and US predicted to grow

Trade between Fiji and the United States is predicted to grow despite the political fall out since the military takeover.

The permanent secretary for commerce, Amena Yauvoli, says trade between the two countries is at a different level from political relations.

Mr Yauvoli made the comment during a seminar in Suva to increase sales on the American market where he outlined measures to revamp exports and investment opportunities.

The Fiji Times quotes him as saying investors still have confidence in Fiji's economy but there is an urgent need to address the trade imbalance when the gap between exports and imports is widening day by day.

Mr Yauvoli says Fiji's balance of payment problems would be contained and macro-economic stability enhanced through the government's commitment to increase exports.
