American Samoa post office intercepts drug consignment

10:10 am on 25 April 2007

A package containing more than $10,000 worth of ice has been intercepted by American Samoan post office officials

A sniffer dog identified the contraband concealed under bags of candy and bottles of mustard.

Around noon a man in his mid 20's arrived to claim the package.

He was an Immigration Officer and had come to the post office in an Immigration Office van with another immigration agent.

The man said he was sent to pick up the package by a colleague who was waiting outside in the parking lot.

The van had left the post office when police checked out the parking lot.

Police are now looking for the person to whom the package was addressed.
