The police in Samoa have charged a 37 year old man over the alleged rape of an American woman serving in the country as a member of the U.S Peace-corp volunteer programme.

According to police, the victim suffered injuries when she was allegedly raped at night, early this month in a flat where she was staying.

The police spokesperson and assistant commissioner, Papali'i Li'o, says 43 men were interviewed in the past three weeks.

Papali'i says the victim returned to her home country after the incident, but will return to give evidence against her attacker who will appear in the Supreme Court this week.
