The American Samoan Senate has rejected the administration bill proposing lump sum payments for long-term employees who chose to take early retirement.

The Chairman of the Senate Retirement Committee, Senator Salanoa Aumoeualogo, in reporting the bill to the floor for second reading, called for the proposed legislation to be rejected.

The Senate counsel, Roy Hall Jr, said the the bill was not the early retirement incentive as the administration was making it out to be.

He said the legislation needed further review and an assessment was needed on how the Retirement Fund would be affected by the lump sum payments.
