Pacific auditors discuss working more closely together

Auditors general from around the Pacific are meeting in Fiji this week to discuss how regional approaches in the sector can help foster and maintain governance.

They are taking part in a three-day meeting on the Pacific regional audit initiative at the Pacific Islands forum, which through its Pacific Plan is fostering regional co-operation on a number of fronts.

The secretary general of the forum, Greg Urwin, says the forum Island countries must strive to foster an enabling environment for comprehensive, sustainable approaches to developing public auditing.

Mr Urwin says this includes strengthened information sharing, capacity-building, technical assistance, and if conditions are suitable, establishing a sub-regional approach to public auditing.
