The President of the Fiji Law Society, Davnesh Sharma, is appalled that the interim Attorney General has released minutes of the meeting of the Judicial Services Committee that appointed the acting Chief Justice.
The Law Society has objected to the appointment of new magistrates while a case has yet to be heard questioning the makeup of the Committee, or JSC.
The interim Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, says the minutes show Mr Sharma was part of the first JSC meeting and he should not be commenting on matters before the court.
Mr Sharma says the Attorney General has released the documents to cloud the issue:
"We would like to know on what basis you are releasing the minutes, remember there has to be a separation between the judiciary and a separation of power, the arms of government should be kept separate from the judiciary."
Mr Sharma says he has never denied being part of the JSC that appointed the acting Chief Justice, but there have since been questions over whether the membership of the committee was correct.
He says this is what the Law Society wants to clarify in court before further decisions are made.
