Australia will host the Oceania Hockey Federation women's olympic qualifying tournament in September after the event was removed from Fiji for safety reasons.

The move followed advisories from the government's of New Zealand and Australia not to travel to Fiji because it wasn't safe because of the recent coup

Fiji Hockey's vice president Kevin Fraser says he's very disappointed and criticised Oceania for making the decision based on the government advisories alone.

He says he would like to think that the individual sporting bodies in some ways could ignore the political situation.

However, Oceania president Derek Wilshere disagrees and says their decision was based on player welfare.
