Samoa's telecommunications company, SamoaTel, has applied for a licence as an Internet Service Provider in order to launch broadband services.
The application was lodged with the Office of the Regulator last year.
The office's legal analyst Tima Peteru says SamoaTel needs an ISP license to launch the service.
SamoaTel CEO, Mike Johnstone, says they have been trialling a limited number of customers, and responses so far have been positive.
Current ISP license holders iPasifika Samoa Ltd and Computer Services Limited has indicated concerns about SamoaTel's application to provide broadband services.
