The School Lunch Programme has welcomed suggestions to improve the nutirition value of meals being served in schools in American Samoa.

At its own initiative, the programme has made changes in response to concern about the high sugar and fat content of food items which were on the school menus this year.

One example, according to acting programme director, is that meals for the new school year will no longer include pop tarts, rice crispies and other such food items.
