The United States House and Senate have passed a bill which includes an increase in the American Samoan minimum wage.

The House voted 348 to 73 to approve the minimum wage bill and two hours later in the Senate approved it 80 to 14 and it has now been sent to the US president, George Bush, for signing.

The bill hikes the hourly minimum wage by 50 US cents two months after it is enacted and 50 cents for every year following until local wages are equal to the mainland level.
