The Church of Melanesia is stepping up its efforts to set up its own university in Solomon Islands.
The church plans to offer theology and education as part of its university programme.
The Solomon Star reports a task force committee, consisting of government, private sector and church representatives, met for the first time recently to discuss ways of driving the project forward.
The project manager, Philip Kapini, says the church has received assurances and has been encouraged by the government to proceed with its plan to set up the institution.
Mr Kapini says the church has secured 200 hectares of land on northern Guadalcanal and landowners have given their backing for the project.
