Fiji lawyer still on GCC members' case despite detention

One of the lawyers detained in Fiji by the military over the weekend has said he intends to continue on the case representing former members of the Great Council of Chiefs

Kitione Vuataki, and Ratu Savenaca Komaisavai both found themselves being held at different times during the weekend after the military said they had made inciteful comments.

After their release, both men said they had been treated well.

But the Law Society has objected to the military's move saying lawyers must be free to represent their clients without fear, intimidation or suppression of any sort.

Kitione Vuataki says he has felt some pressure, but the case challenging the suspension of the GCC and the sacking of council members is still due to ahead at the end of June:

"I have felt a bit of a concern, but I am a Christian and if God wants me to do this case then I will do it, pressure or no pressure."
