Solomons commission head to be probed for challenging government choices

2:23 pm on 31 May 2007

The Solomon Islands finance minister says the government has established a tribunal to investigate the conduct by the Chairman of the Police and Prison Services Commission, Edmond Andresen.

The minister, Gordon Darcy Lilo, says the government took the action in light of Mr Andresen's conduct, especially in challenging the appointment of the new Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Jahir Khan.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation quotes Mr Lilo as saying that since the appointment was consistent with provisions of the constitution, the challenge was uncalled for.

He says questioning the procedures and process of the appointment is an act of insubordination.
