Vanuatu's national carrier, Air Vanuatu, is replacing its current 135-seater plane with a bigger 185-seater Boeing 737.

The Chief Executive Officer of Air Vanuatu, Captain Terry Kerr, says the lease of its current plane ends next year and the airline has seen tourist numbers increase.

He says with that it in mind, it made sense to get a larger aircraft.

"During our peak periods we are full, we are actually getting spillage so we do need the extra seats and we are fairly confident that the growth will continue."
