NZ foreign minister to visit Tonga

5:44 pm on 1 June 2007

The New Zealand foreign minister, Winston Peters, will make a one-day visit to Tonga next week.

Mr Peters is scheduled to meet the foreign minister, Tu'a Taumoepeau, King George Tupou V and the prime minister, Dr Feleti Sevele.

Meetings are also scheduled with the reconciliation adviser, Viliami Afeaki, and the Civil Society Forum, which is made up of a range of organisations, including those that have been pushing for political reform.

Tonga, whose capital has been under emergency rule since last November's riots, will be hosting this October's Pacific Islands Forum.
