Solomons warning against use of toy guns

12:54 pm on 4 June 2007

Police in Solomon Islands have issued a warning that someone could be shot accidently if people continue to use toy guns.

The warning comes after an incident last Tuesday night involving an imitation toy gun and a combined patrol of police and members of the RAMSI Military contingent.

Police say a toy firearm with a red dot laser pointer attached was aimed at members of the patrol.

They say it was only the restraint and the high level of training of officers that prevented shots being fired.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation says this is the second such incident in the past two weeks.

A 16-year-old boy was spoken to about the incidents, but no charges have been laid
