French Polynesian minister Yip resigns - report

3:03 pm on 6 June 2007

Reports from French Polynesia say the telecommunications minister, Michel Yip, has resigned.

Local radio says the move has not been confirmed by the President, Gaston Tong Sang.

Mr Yip, who is from the Tuamotu archipelago, left the Tahoeraa Huiraatira Party in 2005 to join the ruling coalition led by Oscar Temaru.

He rejoined the ranks of the Tahoeraa-led administration as telecommunications minister in deals that aimed at preventing to stop the veteran leader, Gaston Flosse, from being returned to the presidency.
