Solomon Islands PM won't be swayed by march over Khan, Moti appointments

The Solomon Islands Prime Minister says a planned protest march against two controversial appointments will not have any impact on the decision to appoint the two men.

Last week groups including anti-corruption body, Transparency Solomon Islands and Civil Society groups announced a proposed peaceful march to protest the planned appointments of Julian Moti as Attorney General and Jahir Khan as Police Commissioner.

The march organisers hope to force Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare to rescind the appointments.

Mr Sogavare however, says nothing will change his government's decision.

He says the government hugely respects the laws of the country and never at any time broke them for specific interests.
