2:13 pm on 7 June 2007

A fire has destroyed a historic court building in the Vanuatu capital, Port Vila.

The wooden Supreme Court building was about 100 years old and dates back to the early days of the French-English condominium of the New Hebrides.

The fire is believed to have started just after midnight and engulfed the entire structure.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire to determine whether it was arson.
